Deadly Discipline
by Wake Me Up Before You Jo-Ho inhttps://www.openmindsfoundation.org/loving-memory-laura-ann-gracey-father-remembers/.
the death toll from watchtower increases with the latest suicide report of laura ann gracey.
here, her father recounts the events leading up to his daughter's taking of her own life - undoubtedly starting with her indoctrination from birth into this stifling, doomsday cult.. i see many similarities to myself as laura.

Joho,
Thank you for sharing. It is always amazing to me how so many people from different walks have stories so similar. I actually remember this happening (I grew up in this area.....know elders in the Orange hall). I didn't know her personally though.
How horrific.

U.K. NHS Attitude to Blood Transfusion and its Safety
by BluesBrother inwhile visiting someone at the local hospital i saw this leaflet " will i need a blood transfusion ?
- patient information" .
now i was raised in the belief that doctors are transfusion-happy and just give you one willy nilly if they operate , further that a trans.

Fall guy,
No doubt if you are in need of a transfusion you are not in the best situation to begin with. But blood still remains a VITAL component and tool in modern medicine. A plethora of drugs and treatments are made from it, and there are trauma situations in which nothing else will do. As we hopefully develop less and less need for it (as a finite resource that can only be stored for so long), JW's will no doubt continue to pat themselves on the back.
If I could avoid it, I would. If i couldn't, I would take the risk as I would any medical treatment meant to save my life. I would do the same to my children. Doctors would also do the same for themselves and their children. Just ask one.

Grocery Store conversation with an elder
by problemaddict 2 ini'm inactive here to the local jw's as i have faded.
i've been slandered and all that, shunned by some but not all, but the elders basically leave me alone.
i still run into to people all over though.

Joho, yes maam that is right. Also it could be pre-adolescent, post-apocalyptic, or perusing anonymously......but yeah just my handle name here since I'm on the DL.
JWfacts, yeah I thought the same thing. I winder if he will let anyone know he ran into me at all. I doubt it.
On a side point, I sort of made a deal with an elder whose territory i am in. I kind of caught him on something not cool, and basically told him.....you keep the brothers away from any potential shepherding here.......and i won't talk to them about you. Deal? Deal! So I am right in the heart of my territory, faded, and still going strong.
I'm sure it will come to and end at some point, but so far I have been able to have A LOT of conversations I would not normally be able to have.

Yeah.....I wouldn't have said that mainly because hes 4......and also just because it was a bit of a snark. I was making a point that was WAY out of the atmosphere for a young boy, and i do try to teach him to be respectful. I introduced my son to him as someone his father knew. So yeah....lots of reasons to make sure he wasn't in ear shot. He always picks the potatoes. 3 colors......I make him count a certain amount of each. So hes in eye shot, and takes him a minute. I only needed a few seconds. :)

Stupid, stupid nonsense in the October JW broadcast
by sir82 inso in the october jw broadcast, there is a "morning worship" segment in which g. jackson goes to great lengths to explain how the term "those taking the lead" are not "leaders".. the terms are exactly equivalent, of course, but jackson, with a wink & smirk, pats himself on the back for his own cleverness on how different they really are.it's just so bizarrely absurd.. imagine if such tortured reasoning were applied to other areas..... -------------------------------------.
restaurant manager: i'm sorry, the only position we have open is for dishwasher.
applicant: that's insulting!
-
problemaddict 2
Well.....I haven't read it......but they are actually sort of right. The context of that scripture matters, and the translation is open.
I would argue the meaning of "taking the lead" in this verse, has nothing to do with position. It has to do with who serves others the most. The person who "is last", it seems.......is taking the lead in the congregation.
I doubt however that was his point.

"The shootings in Las Vegas show how much we need God's Kingdom"
by Sour Grapes inmy jw wife, like all of us, was saddened by the senseless killings in nevada.
she said, "the shootings just shows how much we need god's kingdom.
" i replied, "yes if it was armageddon, jehovah wouldn't have left any survivors.

Even JW's I know with more common sense than most are falling for the "something is happening" narrative. Because its on the news, close to home, etc...
Earthquakes, hurricanes, and now a shooting......all CLOSE BY. Its amazing how our proximity to tragedy directly relates to how bad we think the entire world is.
But.....how do you deal with that? Hey.....2,000 babies under the age of 2 died today. And yesterday. So you know......every day is a tregedy in some ways. But 50 years ago it was 6,000 a day. So......Improvement right?

I'll be honest......it was gratifying.
So of course my son did not hear me. I teach him to respect everyone, especially the mentally ill. (little joke there)
In his defense, he is a young elder, and we knew each other for years. But he is also very by the book.....he once asked me why I don't just DA myself.
He.....and everybody......know I am not attending, and will not attend. My "inactive" status is really just a technicality that allows me to still openly speak with others. As a result.....I have been able to help some start their own journey out.
Of course I am celebrating my sons birthday......but I'll be damned if I will tell him that. That was sort of the entire point. He didn't get an answer he could use, and if i run into him or any of them.....they will think twice before prying. Its all about getting them to not think of me as a lost sheep....but as a grown ass man just like all of the rest of them that they run into.....and don't ask prying questions of.

I still run into to people all over though. Lots of JW's in Cali. I ran into one young, now elder, in the local grocery store. I have known him for years.
Me - Hey Frank (name isn't Frank). How are you?
Frank - PA oh just busy doing well thank you.
(small talk....weather...work...bananas)
My kid - Did you know my birthday is in 1 week? I'm turning 5. **runs to get me potatoes**
Frank - Do you guys celebrate his birthday?
Me - Do you continue to masturbate while now serving the congregation?
Frank - WHAT!?!?
Me - Oh......I just thought we were trading questions that were none of the other persons business. My bad. Alright bud....good luck with those green bananas being ripe by tomorrow. **Pats on shoulder.
That felt good. Just kind of happened.

JW Stumper Questions - List You Best Here
by pale.emperor inhi guys.
sooner or later we're going to get a jw knocking on our door.
just like when we were jw's doing the knocking, it's good to have a question prepared to get them thinking about their own beliefs.

A lot of great ones here. I wonder like Cofey though if any of these would really wake someone up? Some of these I would have eaten alive in my JW apologist years. What might get people to think?
I liked this one.
Do you believe in freedom of religion?"
(yes of course)
"Then why do you not speak to people when they quit your religion?"
Simple and puts them on the spot. They will either have to lie, write you off, or be uncomfortable. If you do it with kindness and sincerity....could have an effect?
